Position Overview

Green Street is the preeminent independent real estate research firm offering a diversified suite of highly regarded products for investors in both public and private real estate markets. Green Street seeks highly motivated candidates with relevant work experience and superior academic credentials to join its research team in Australia. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Associate to help build coverage of the Australian REIT universe as well as provide detailed data and analytics on real estate dynamics for the major real estate markets in Australia. Green Street offers the unique opportunity to build a career in real estate and equity research as part of an entrepreneurial venture within Australia, leveraging on the global research team’s ~40 years of experience. The Australian team will be fully integrated within Green Street’s global research team and report to the Head of Australia based in Sydney.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain and/or oversee detailed financial models/valuation, projections, and databases
  • Apply sound understanding and use of finance and valuation techniques
  • Value a number of REITs using a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Become an expert on covered companies and major real estate markets in Australia
  • Support the Australian Head in understanding the implications and impact of news events and economic forces on specific companies, sectors, and assets
  • Prepare and publish market-focused reports. Write sector Quick Takes and first draft of some research reports in support of the Australian Head
  • Voice opinions on investment recommendations
  • Develop relationships with REIT management teams and institutional investors to share perspective on industry and covered companies
  • Develop relationships with private market investors and other contacts
  • Organize, and analyze real estate information on markets and submarkets throughout Australia
  • Closely follow and understand real estate market activity and the impact of news events on specific sectors, markets, and assets
  • Analyze diverse data from disparate sources to form a cohesive real estate outlook
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness by seeking out new and creative sources of information
  • Must enjoy problem solving and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Some travel to Investor Days, conferences and property tours required
  • Ad-hoc and administrative tasks as needed

Candidate Profile

In addition to a strong work ethic and motivation to learn, the Senior Associate position requires the following skills: meticulous attention to detail, strong financial modeling, valuation skills and research skills, developing communication (both written and verbal) skills, a high level of organization, creativity, intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, and an ability to work independently and multi-task. Strong analytical skills and a background in finance are required. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher with high distinction in finance, accounting, real estate, economics, or a related field from a well-recognized school
  • 3+ years of experience in conducting financial/economic research, publicly traded real estate securities, general securities, and capital markets
  • Progress towards the CFA designation is encouraged
  • Strong working knowledge of financial statements and Microsoft Excel
  • The ability to multi-task effectively while maintaining accuracy
  • Proficiency in English

Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization

In addition to a basic salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements). Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.
