Position Overview

Green Street is looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Internal Tools team, an agile group of developers focused on building and maintaining the core systems that power Green Street’s research and data platforms. This is a full-stack role with opportunities to contribute to complex data workflows, user-facing applications, and the underlying system design that keeps everything running smoothly.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working across layers of the stack, thinks critically about data models and domain boundaries, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment. You’ll work closely with other engineers, product managers, and data stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions that are used daily by internal teams across the company.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of internal tools and services that support core research, data integration, and operations workflows
  • Build and maintain full-stack web applications using modern technologies (Vue 3, TypeScript, C#, PostgreSQL)
  • Help define clear, modular, and maintainable data models that reflect real-world business processes and support long-term system growth
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to decisions around APIs, events, and inter-service communication patterns
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code that meets business and technical requirements
  • Collaborate with teammates during sprint planning, backlog grooming, and code reviews
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environments, with a focus on reliability and observability
  • Help evolve team practices around testing, deployment, monitoring, and code quality

Candidate Profile

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in software engineering with exposure to both frontend and backend development
  • Proficiency with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one SPA framework (Vue.js preferred)
  • Experience building APIs and backend services in Python, C#, or another modern language
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, schema design, and data modelling for real-world business domains
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles—modularity, testability, version control, continuous integration
  • Comfortable working in an Agile team and balancing multiple priorities
  • Curious, thoughtful, and proactive about identifying and solving problems

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
  • Familiarity with event sourcing or audit-based data models
  • Exposure to containerized environments and cloud infrastructure (Docker, AWS)
  • Understanding of system design fundamentals, such as data ownership, idempotency, or domain boundaries
  • Interest in commercial real estate, financial data, or structured research platforms
