Position Overview

Green Street is seeking a highly motivated candidate with significant newsroom experience and high-level editing skills to join an elite news team at a fiercely independent journalistic organization with a 40-year history.

 

Green Street is the publisher of Real Estate Alert, Commercial Mortgage Alert and Asset-Backed Alert, leading titles in the business-to-business financial news industry. Green Street is also the leading independent research and advisory firm serving investors in public and private real estate markets in the U.S. and Europe. Top executives, including those at leading investment firms, banks and law firms, rely on articles published by Green Street’s news team. All three newsletters focus on scoops unavailable anywhere else and are considered the most respected sources of news and data in their markets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Copy editing content across all three of Green Street’s newsletters, which have staggered deadlines throughout each week. Editorial team consists of 12 reporters and five editors, mostly in the Summit office where the copy editor will be based.
  • Copy editing content for Green Street’s Canada publication.
  • Ensuring all copy meets the organization’s high standards for readability, accuracy and exclusivity, while reflecting its signature authoritative voice.
  • Ensuring consistency with the organization’s style guide.
  • Developing a level of familiarity and comfort with industry topics across all areas of coverage.
  • Coordinating copyflow and assisting the production team as required in the layout of newsletters and in time, learn the layout editor’s job.
  • Contact editors or reporters for questions on stories.
  • Close newsletters and organize distribution emails.
  • Create, update or modify Word tables and Excel charts to follow style guidelines.
  • Transfer information from the database team into Word documents for rankings, etc.

Candidate Profile

In addition to a strong work ethic and superior track record, the Copy Editor position requires the following: outstanding editorial skills; journalistic experience as reporter or editor; grounding and familiarity with financial concepts and terminology; sharp interpersonal skills, including exceptional oral communication abilities that instill staff loyalty, dedication and camaraderie; a high level of organization, creativity and resourcefulness; an ability to lead, develop and manage a team; and an ability to work independently and multitask.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Five-plus years of relevant experience in journalism, including at least 3+ as an editor or copy editor.
  • Familiarity with and experience editing using AP Style.
  • Familiarity working with a CMS and traditional publishing.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Word and Excel are preferred. Experience with Adobe InDesign is also a plus.

Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization

In addition to the posted base salary range, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.

USD $70,000.00 - USD $78,000.00 /Yr.
