Position Overview

Green Street is one of the leading companies in the commercial real estate research, data, and analytics industry. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Global Payroll Manager to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience in payroll management and commission plans, including experience with payroll processes abroad (UK is preferred). As our Payroll Manager, you will also be responsible for all regulatory reporting to federal, state, and local agencies. This position has primary responsibility for directing all aspects of payroll, including ensuring smooth and timely payroll cycles and acting as the primary point of contact for employees’ questions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead global payroll and support our growth across different geographies:
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for U.S. and oversee the payroll process for international employees through external payroll providers
    • Onboarding/offboarding updates, benefit and pay changes, timecard approvals, and one-time payments, ensuring timely and accurate payroll cycles across all Green Street locations (current and as it expands) using Paylocity and in collaboration with People Operations
  • Coordinate with external payroll providers on changes in payroll, queries, policy examinations, audits, and more
  • Stay updated on local payroll regulations, tax laws and industry trends, implementing necessary changes to ensure compliance and best practices
  • Lead all payroll, 401K, workers compensation, and other payroll related audits
  • Calculate and record global commission and bonus accruals
  • Serve as primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, providing timely support and resolution on earnings, deductions, tax issues, and related matters.
  • Manage the reconciliation and distribution of payroll benefits/deductions for all entities within the group
    • Reconcile with the general ledger and financial statements, supporting month end close or other audit related questions
  • Actively participate in month close, posting payroll entries, allocations and accruals as needed while supporting the review process
  • Ensure global pension, retirement, and other benefits are correctly processed and paid to the various providers or relevant authorities in line with local requirements and legislation
  • Analyze and explain payroll variance report on a semi-monthly basis
  • Oversee all regulatory reporting requirements including periodic filings with federal, state, local, and international agencies, and manage year-end reporting processes (e.g., W-2s, 1095Cs, P60s, T4s) to ensure timely and compliant submissions
  • Continuously enhance payroll operations by identifying automation opportunities, implementing system improvements, and developing policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance, data security, and operational excellence
  • Manage complex international payroll scenarios including expatriate assignments and cross-border payments, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations as they arise

Candidate Profile

  • Analytical — the individual synthesizes complex or diverse information, able to analyze and provide recommendations using problem-solving approach and creativity
  • Project management — the individual delegates work assignments to third parties, gives authority to work independently, sets expectations, and monitors delegated activities. Able to work and manage external service providers while enforcing strict timelines and collaborate across departments within and outside the organization
  • Planning/organizing — the individual priorities and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans while looking to improve processes and add value to existing ones
  • Self-starter - must have the ability to solve problems and self-initiate processes with limited guidance
  • Control and risk management – must be able to build and enforce controls over the process and the stakeholders, audit the dataflow and the work of others while minimizing room for manual mistakes
  • Organic and inorganic growth – must have experience in establishing payroll in a foreign country whether through organic or inorganic growth. The company expands significantly and that will be part of the duties regular
  • Proven experience as a Global Payroll Manager for at least 7 years, with a focus on managing payroll operations across multiple countries and regions (California & UK preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of global payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements for various jurisdictions with at least 5 years of experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required – the individual will be asked to complete an analysis exercise as part of the interview process
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is highly preferred
  • A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or a Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is highly preferred
  • Paylocity and NetSuite experience is preferred
  • UK hands-on payroll processing experience is a plus
  • Understanding of data protection regulations and confidentiality requirements in handling employee information
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with changes in global payroll regulations and best practices

Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization

In addition to the posted base salary range, this position is eligible for a performance bonus/commission and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.

USD $115,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
